Surrendering Our Lives to God

What is in your heart? Do you really desire to live a life dedicated to God? If so, then surrendering your will to Him and asking for help will come naturally.

Once I tasted of the amazing love that He gives and began to experience His presence in my life, I began to yearn for more of all that He could be in my life.

Notice in the scripture below some of the key phrases the Psalmist uses as he surrenders to the Lord.

• Teach me
• Give me
• Direct me
• Turn my heart towards
• Turn my eyes away

Psalms 119:33-37
Teach me, O LORD, to follow your decrees; then I will keep them to the end. Give me understanding, and I will keep your law. Direct me in the path of your commands for there I find delight. Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain. Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word.

All we have to do is to trust Him to make the changes in our lives. The key, though, is to surrender our will to Him with sincerity of heart. Having a God-changed life is the result of having a willingness to become more God-like and letting Him do the work in us.

Try using these phrases in prayer time now and surrender various areas of your life to the Lord. If your heart seems to be far from God, then ask Him to turn your heart towards Him.

Some People Claim to be Christians But Are They Really Saved

A few years ago I was on a street ministry team. Every other Friday night we would go somewhere in our city to witness to strangers about the things of God. Oftentimes, we would sit and speak with people who would be plastered drunk, cursing, smoking, and obviously living a life filled with sin. Many of them would profess that Jesus was their best friend.

How would people live if they have truly surrendered their lives to Jesus?

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!

1 John 3:9
No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.

Galatians 5:19-21
The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

One night one of the street team ministry participants asked me: “These people who claim to be saved yet live a life filled with sin, are they really saved?”

I replied: “Only God will decide who will and will not enter into heaven for eternity. The one thing I do know though is that if Jesus comes into our lives, then Jesus should be flowing through us and coming out of our lives.”

Lift Jesus Higher in Subtle Ways

We should always be looking for opportunities to give God the glory for things in our lives. If we can learn how to do this in subtle ways throughout various moments of our day, the Holy Spirit can begin to reveal to those around us who Jesus is.

John 12:32“But I, when I (Jesus) am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself.”

There are times when we are to boldly proclaim the reality of our Lord to others and shout it from the rooftops. I believe that we are to be ready IN season and OUT of season to speak to others about our best friend, Lord and Savior.

To lift Jesus higher in subtle ways is like climbing a ladder one step at a time. Here’s the key: you only take an occasional step higher on the ladder with those whom you interact with on a daily basis. Eventually, the many steps on the ladder you have taken will take you to the place of lifting the name of Jesus higher. During all of those steps, the Lord will be drawing men to himself through your obedience and willingness to be a witness for him.

Ask God to help you lift Jesus higher. If you do this, I believe that He will begin to fill your mouth with words from heaven. Your conversations will occasionally be seasoned with the salt of the earth and Jesus will be lifted higher.

God Created Me To Be Who I Am

Psalms 139:13
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

Have you ever wanted to be like someone else or maybe for a moment thought that you don’t like yourself or the way your life is going? When I have these types of thoughts, I just try to focus on the fact that God created me to be who I am. I had no control over who he chose me to be. I do have control over trying to better my life though, by staying close to God and seeking after his plan and purpose for my life. When we give our lives to the Lord, we become born again. A new man starts being formed and the purpose is for us to become more Christ like. Sometimes, I tell the Lord, “you made me, now fix me, I want to be more like you.” Just remember today that you’re special, no one on this earth is like you and God is not through molding you either.
