When we look to the bible we will find many instances where God has favor on his faithful ones. Being a Christian can be accompanied with many trials. As we encounter them and purpose to be persistent in following Christ, we are being purified by the fire. Oftentimes I will look to the book of Psalms in order to gain wisdom for dealing with people who are not nice. Today, here’s what I found:

Psalms 35
22 LORD, you have seen this; do not be silent.
Do not be far from me, Lord.
23 Awake, and rise to my defense!
Contend for me, my God and Lord.
24 Vindicate me in your righteousness, LORD my God;
do not let them gloat over me.
25 Do not let them think, “Aha, just what we wanted!”
or say, “We have swallowed him up.”

This is a great reminder that I should continue to turn my rocky relationships over to God and let Him be my vindicator. He is able to handle things in perfect timing and with greater impact than I could ever attempt with my efforts.

The best way I have found to let go of troublesome people is through prayer. I think that is why I look to the book of Psalms because many of them are written as prayers.

I will trust God today to contend with people who are not so nice to me. By following the Godly wisdom found in the bible, I am sure the Lord will contend on my behalf against those who are operating in evil toward me.

The entire 35th Psalm is filled with Godly wisdom and advice on how to handle people who are not nice. To break it down into a simple phrase, “let go and let God!”

It has been my experience that when I have been rejected from someone whom I really desired to be accepted and loved by, my response is to lash out in anger towards them. This is because they hurt my feelings. Life is just full of different situations where people are not nice to us. God’s instructions for us are really clear. We are to be like Jesus and not fight. We also are to forgive them for the way they have treated us.
Matthew 6:14-15
For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Peter 2:23
They hurled their insults at him (Jesus), he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.

If we walk closely with God, the fruits of the Holy Spirit will help us. A few of them are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness and self control. It takes two to argue, the best choice you can make is to remove yourself from the other if a hurtful situation begins. Then talk to a friend you can trust about your frustrations as soon as possible.

The sooner you can do these things the better you can protect yourself form the effects of getting rejected. Many times people don’t mean to hurt us, but if we can learn how to avoid getting hurt,we will experience a lot less pain when rejection comes knocking on our door.
